India - Pakistan Dream Final at the T20 World Cup
WORLD TWENTY20 final, Johannesburg: India v Pakistan
The inaugural Twenty20 World cup final, on Monday, is a marketing man's dream - with Pakistan taking on India.India held its nerve against a brave charge by Australia to win the spectacle by a handsome margin of 15 runs after setting a target of 189 while earlier in the day, Umar Gul's sensational seam bowling and Imran Nazir's half-century ensured Pakistan the first spot in the ICC World Twenty20 final at New Zealand's expense. Chasing a target of 144 runs, after a combination of poor batting and excellent bowling restricted New Zealand to 143-8 from their 20 overs, Pakistan won the semi-final encounter at the Newlands cricket ground in Cape Town by six wickets after knocking off 147 runs in 18.5 overs. A middle order collapse had cost New Zealand vital runs after a promising start, Ross Taylor top-scoring with 37. At Durban, brilliant left-hander Yuvraj Singh hit 70 off just 30 balls as India won the toss and recovered spectacularly from a sluggish start to total 188-5. Australia crumbled when 30 were needed from the last three to end on 173-7.

India are yet to embrace the phenomenon of Twenty20 cricket, despite winning the one-off international match against South Africa. They had specifically requested not to play any on their recent tour of England. But despite their recent struggles in the one-day format, the Indians are confident they can be competitive in South Africa.Wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is leading India in the absence of Sachin-Dravid-Ganguly, was out for a duck after just two balls in the only 2020 international he played - against the South Africans in Johannesburg. He has played five other Twenty20 games, with a high score of 73 not out and an average of 41.00, which compares favourably with his one-day international figure of 46.97. Other members of the Indian team include Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Ajit Agarkar, Dinesh Karthik, Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Joginder Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Piyush Chawla, Sreesanth, Irfan Pathan, RP Singh and Rohit Sharma. India's first match is against Scotland at Durban on September 13. India take on archrivals Pakistan on September 14 at the same venue as both are in the same Group D.
India is looking to win their first international one-day tournament since they shared the Champions Trophy with Sri Lanka in 2002.

T20 Semi Finals
WORLD TWENTY20 semi-final, Durban: Australia v India
Favorites Australia face brilliant India in the second semi-final, at Durban on Saturday eveningIndia were brilliant in their victory over England earlier in the week, assisted by a dazzling innings from Yuvraj Singh, who scored 50 off 12 balls and hit six sixes off one over. They were also ruthless in their destruction of South Africa on Thursday night. The only loss in the tournament out of five matches came against New Zealand as they fell 10 runs short while chasing. Australia, pre-tournament favourites, suffered two shock defeats, first losing to Zimbabwe in the first round and then to Pakistan in the second, but coach Tim Nielsen believes the team is peaking at the right time.
The second semi-final starts at 18:00.

6-sixes in an over, fastest international 50 for Yuvraj Singh
September 19, 2007
Yuvraj Singh became the first player in Twenty20 history to hit six sixes in an over in India's match against England. The astonishing barrage from Yuvraj, 25, helped him reach his half-century off just 12 balls. The lefthander hit the first delivery from England bowler Stuart Broad out of the Kingsmead stadium, and followed with five more sixes in the Super Eight match of the World Twenty20 tournament. Sir Gary Sobers was the first to hit six sixes in an over in first-class cricket, followed by Ravi Shastri, while Herschelle Gibbs managed it in a one-day international. Yuvraj Singh is however the first batsman to hit a fast bowler for max.
Yuvraj's 12-ball 50 is also the fastest in any form of international cricket. The previous quickest one-day fifty belonged to Sanath Jayasuriya, in 17 balls for Sri Lanka against Pakistan in 1996. Record for the fastest 100 is held by Shahid Afridi, who needed only 37 balls against Sri Lanka on his first ever innings.
Previous 36-run overs 1968 Garfield Sobers, of Nottinghamshire and West Indies, hit Malcolm Nash, the Glamorgan left-arm bowler, for 36 in an over in Swansea. See video of Sir Gary Sober's Six 6s
1985 Ravi Shastri, playing for Bombay, matched the achievement in a Ranji Trophy match. The India opening batsman hit Tilak Raj, a slow left-arm Baroda bowler, out of the ground six times.
2007 Herschelle Gibbs won $1 million for charity when he took on Daan van Bunge of Netherlands, the leg spinner, in the 30th over of South Africas World Cup match.
2007-08 ODI Captain
Dhoni gets one-day job
Sep 19, 2007
Mahendra Singh Dhoni was appointed the captain of the ODI site that has three former captains besides a couple of recalled seniors for a water-tight 12-ODI schedule against Australia and Pakistan. While Yuvraj Singh has been named vice-captain, Virender Sehwag stays out of the team though it is believed that he may get a chance soon with the selectors putting a rotation system in place, especially for the seniors. The selection committee, however, put off the appointment of the captain for Indias Test matches against Pakistan, Australia and South Africa to an unspecified date. Meanwhile, Dhoni's elevation to captaincy was greeted with beating of drums, bursting of crackers and smearing of 'gulal' in his home town Ranchi.
Meanwhile, Netizens want Sourav Ganguly back

Ganguly who has been nicknamed Bengal Tiger, Prince of Calcutta, Lord Snooty by his opponents, and affectionately Dada by his team-mates, went on to become the captain of the Indian cricket team from 2000 to 2005. He led India to the 2003 World Cup finals, and holds the Indian captaincy record for the most Test victories. Following an exit from the national team in early 2006, Ganguly was recalled to the Indian test side in December, staging a successful comeback in the 2006 - 2007 Indian tour of South Africa.
