Sri Lanka in India ODI Cricket Series 2006-07

IND vs SL 2nd ODI: Sri Lanka beat India by 5 runs

Sri Lanka defeated India by five runs in a tense encounter in the second ODI at the Madhavrao Scindia Stadium in Rajkot.
From being in a position of considerable strength, India buckled under the pressure created by some good bowling and fielding by the visitors, eventually needing 11 runs of the final over. While MS Dhoni (48) made a valiant attempt to take India home, his wicket brilliantly caught by Maharoof in the outfield, on the penultimate delivery of the match sealed India's fate. For Sri Lanka, the game was a true test of grit and character, as they continued to keep fighting while playing catch-up on a number of occasions. Along with this, the bowling performances of Farveez Maharoof, who bagged 3 for 37 and Malinga Bandara, who picked 2 for 36, must be a real confidence booster, considering that Chaminda Vaas and Muttiah Muralitharan are not playing this series. However, the day, without a doubt, belonged to wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara, who smashed a scintillating 110 of 127 balls and picked up two catches and the stumping of Sachin Tendulkar. Earlier, Dravid won the toss in the morning and put Sri Lanka to bat first. For India, Zaheer Khan was replaced by Anil Kumble. Reported Earlier: With the first India-Sri Lanka ODI at Eden Gardens Kolkata coming to an watery end after just 18.2 overs the weather over here in Rajkot looks bleak with rain being experienced even yesterday evening.
The game today at Madhavrao Scindia Cricket ground is going to be vital for the two teams, but the Indian captain is finding hard to name a 12 member team due to injuries. Irfan Pathan is down with a shoulder injury while Yuvraj Singh is suffering from a back injury. Ajit Agarkar is also not fit through flu. The Madhavrao ground unlike Eden Garden cannot hold a crowd of over 10,000. Nevertheless an official at the grounds stated that one could expect a high scoring game today. But skipper Dravid is not going take the Sri Lankans lightly, in spite of the absence of two top players Chaminda Vaas and Mutthiah Muralitharan.
India is likely to retain the team that played in the first ODI at Kolkata, while Sri Lankans are also unlikely to make any changes. India team : Robin Uthappa, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid (Captain), Dinesh Karthik, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Wicket Keeper), Harbhajan Singh, Sreesanth, Anil Kumble, Munaf Patel
Sri Lanka team : Mahela Jayawardene (Captain), Sanath Jayasuriya, Upul Tharanga, Kumar Sangakkara (Wicket Keeper), Marvan Atapattu, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Russel Arnold, Nuwan Kulasekera, Farveez Maharoof, Lasith Malinga, Malinga Bandara
Second ODI, Rajkot : Sri Lanka 257 for 8 (50.0 overs) beat India 252 for 9 (50.0 overs) by 5 runs

BCCI Dravid face-off

Dravid: Will explain if Board asks

Showing no signs of repentance, Indian captain Rahul Dravid on Saturday said that he was not worried by the cricket board's stand to seek an explanation from him for his outburst against the team manager for the South African tour. Dravid said controversies had become a part and parcel of Indian cricket and he had learnt to deal with such situations.
"If they ask for an explanation (on his outburst against tour manger Chetan Desai of Goa). I will give it to them. It does not worry me, nothing worries me," he told reporters.
The BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah had said yesterday that the board would seek an explanation from Dravid for the outburst but appeared to downplay the whole incident today. Desai had come under a scathing attack from the Indian skipper for his tour report which criticised Dravid for selecting an out-of-form Virender Sehwag and unfit Munaf Patel in the deciding third test against South Africa which India lost.
In an uncharacteristic outburst, Dravid had told reporters in Kolkata on Wednesday that Desai had no standing in the game. "Anyone is entitled to give his opinion, anyone is entitled to give a report. But me commenting on that, I will comment only when it is worthy of my comment."

IND vs SL 1st ODI : Rained out

Only 18.2 overs were possible before rain forced the opening one-day international between India and Sri Lanka in Calcutta to be abandoned.
With Sanath Jayasuriya hitting 13 boundaries in an unbeaten 63, the tourists reached 102-3. The staff tried for several hours to clear surface water at Eden Gardens but umpires Simon Taufel and Suresh Shastri ruled conditions were not good enough.
The second game of the four-match series will take place in Rajkot on Sunday. Reported Earlier :Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to field in the first of the four-match ODI series against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Indian skipper Rahul Dravid suggested that the decision to field first was taken considering the due factor that will come into play later on in the day. India will be looking to the returning Virender Sehwag to get some runs under his belt, while Sri Lanka will be hoping that their bowling attack can deliver despite the absence of the experienced Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas. India team : R Uthappa, S Ganguly, V Sehwag, S Tendulkar, R Dravid (Captain), D Karthik, M Dhoni (Wicket Keeper), H Singh, S Sreesanth, Z Khan, M Patel

India orders channels to share live feed

India ordered sports television channels, radio stations and content providers yesterday to share live telecast rights with the state broadcaster for sporting events of "national importance" at home and abroad. Analysts said the move was the first towards a planned law making it mandatory for private broadcasters to share major sports events with Prasar Bharati, legislation the government hopes to pass in the parliament session beginning this month.
