India Women v Australia Women Cricket Series 2008-09

IND Women v AUS Women, 5th ODI: Indias misery complete

With their batters putting up yet another dismal show, the Indian womens cricket team could not avert a whitewash from their Australian counterparts who thrashed them by seven wickets in the fifth and final ODI at Canberra on Sunday.
Chasing Indias 177 for nine, Alex Blackwell (65) and Shelley Nitschke (94) blasted an opening partnership of 140, a record for Australia against India, to guide the host to the target with 21 overs to spare.

IND Women v AUS Women, 4th ODI: Aussie eves thrash India yet again

The Indian women's cricket team's batting collapsed yet again as Australia romped home to a thumping 118-run win in the fourth one-dayer to take a 4-0 lead in the five-match series at Canberra today.
Chasing a record 281 for an elusive win in the series, India were bowled out for 163 with four overs to spare.
Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat, Aussie captain Karen Rolton (101) scored her eighth international hundred, while opener Alex Blackwell (106) also hit a ton on a record-breaking day for the hosts at Manuka Oval. Rolton's century set the world record for the most number of ODI centuries by a woman. Her first century in more than three years was scored off just 91 balls and helped the Aussies post 281 for three, their highest score against India.
Blackwell's second one-day international century was brought up in the 49th over with twin sister Kate at the non-striker's end. In contrast, India's innings began disastrously with MD Thiruskamini run out off a no-ball in the fourth over.
For the third match in a row, India's chase never threatened the hosts and by the 17th over, India had slumped to 4-51 with star batter Mithali Raj dismissed for 22.
A spirited 56-run partnership between Anagha Deshpande and Priyanka Roy was hardly of any help as India were outplayed yet again. Ellyse Perry led the wicket-takers for the hosts with figures of 3-21, while Emma Sampson took 2-24.

IND Women v AUS Women, 3rd ODI: Australia win women's cricket series

Australia's women's cricket team has clinched its one-day series against India, crushing the tourists by 54 runs in their third match at North Sydney Oval.
The win gave the Southern Stars an unassailable 3-0 series lead ahead of the final two matches at Canberra's Manuka Oval this weekend. Australia made 6 for 223 after winning the toss and electing to bat, with Sarah Edwards making a career-high 96.
Wicket-keeper Jodie Fields contributed 54 from 56 balls, combining in a 114-run stand for the fifth wicket with Edwards, a record for Australia against India. India struggled to 7 for 160 off its 50 overs, Lisa Sthalekar doing the damage with 4 for 20 for the Southern Stars.

IND Women v AUS Women, 2nd ODI: Indian women lose to Aussies again

Mithali Raj's defiant 74-run knock went in vain as the Indian women's cricket team slumped to its second successive defeat in the five-match ODI series against Australia, losing by 86 runs, in Sydney on Saturday.
Chasing 216 for victory, the Indians, who lost the first match by eight wickets, were dismissed for 129 in 45.1 overs. Save Mithali's 74, which came off 106 balls, and Anjum Chopra's 20, no other Indian batter managed to post a double-digit score.

IND Women v AUS Women, 1st ODI: Aussie women maul India by 8 wickets, takes 1-0 lead

Indian women's cricket team stood thoroughly out-played against Australia in their opening match of a five-match ODI series after the hosts romped home to a thumping eight-wicket win at Hurstville Oval today.
Chasing 184 to win, vice-captain Alex Blackwell (75) and Lisa Sthalekar (73) stitched together a 116-run partnership for the second-wicket to guide the hosts to the easy victory. The visiting bowlers hardly troubled the Aussie batters as they achieved the victory target with 12 overs to spare.
The New South Wales duo was untroubled all through as they scored freely with well-placed shots and hard running between the wickets. Indian skipper and strike pacer Jhulan Goswami tried every trick in her bag but failed to make an impact.

IND Women v AUS Women, Twenty20: India eves lose to Australia by two runs

Mithali Raj smashed a quick-fire 51, but failed to hit a final ball six that would have tied the scores, as the Indian women's cricket team lost their Twenty20 international against Australia by two runs in Sydney on Tuesday.
Chasing a victory target of 143, India were two wickets down for 11 runs in the third over, and the required run-rate quickly shot past nine per over. But Raj and captain Jhulan Goswami dragged the visitors back into contention in the final eight overs with an unbroken 60-run partnership at the Hurstville Oval. The experienced duo steadily built the innings and needed a six off the final ball to tie the match and force a bowl-out, but Raj could only manage a boundary.
Raj's 51 came of 45 balls. Apart from her, the other top scorers were Sulakshana Naik (32) and Goswami (27 not out) as India mounted a spirited run chase only to end up just short of the target.
