DLF Tri Series Trophy India vs West Indies, Match 1
Windies win despite Tendulkar's 40th ton
Sep 14, 2006
Sachin Tendulkar marked his first full innings after six months out with his 40th one-day century - but rain dashed India's hopes of beating West Indies. Tendulkar smashed five sixes in his 141 off 148 balls as his side piled up 309-5 in their opening tri-series game. But Ramnaresh Sarwan and Brian Lara built on a good start from Chris Gayle (45) to help the Windies to 141-2 off only 20 overs in Kuala Lumpur. Then came the rain to give them victory by 29 runs under Duckworth/Lewis rules.
India seeks revenge against West Indies in tri-series tournament
Sep 14, 2006
India, boosted by the return of star batsman Sachin Tendulkar, will be hoping to avenge this summer's 4-1 series drubbing by the West Indies when it opens its limited-overs tri-series campaign Thursday against Brian Lara's team.
A downcast West Indies, meanwhile, is recovering from its shock, 78-run defeat at the hands of Australia in Tuesday night's opening match of the tournament.
The Indians have of late resorted to unconventional training methods to prepare for upcoming tournaments and the tri-series here will give Rahul Dravid and his men an opportunity to test themselves against two strong opponents. West Indies leads India 6-4 in the last 10 matches, but India would look to set the record straight on Thursday.
