Commonwealth Bank Series, 2012India, Sri Lanka, Australia - Commonwealth Bank SeriesThe Australian Tri-Series (also known as the World Series Cup between 1979–80 and 1995–96) is a one day international cricket tournament held between the home side and two touring teams, in the height of the Australian cricket season, i.e. during the summer months of December, January and February. The concept of a three-team international series (known as a tri-series) in cricket originated with the World Series Cricket program sponsored by Kerry Packer, and the first two tri-series between Australia, West Indies and a World XI have never been awarded official One Day International status.

Chasing a revised target of 152 for a win under the Duckworth-Lewis method, Jayawardene (61 not out) anchored the run chase after opener Tillakaratne Dilshan (45) and Kumar Sangakkara (30) laid the foundation for an easy win at the SCG.Earlier, David Hussey's half-century lifted Australia to 158 off 40.5, the hosts' lowest completed one-day international score at the SCG since 1997. With the absence of Australian skipper Michael Clarke, Ricky Ponting was put in charge of the side, but Australia's fortunes again mirrored those of its captain, who made just 2.
